Statement from the HCAO Board: Policy on Strategic Focus and Issue Prioritization
Health Care for All Oregon is a non-partisan organization. A comprehensive, affordable, publicly-funded health system will benefit ALL Oregonians!
We support universal health care because:
It allows equitable access, providing people with the comprehensive care they need.
It expands choice, with the freedom to see whichever doctor you choose.
It supports provider and patient autonomy in making the best decisions for health without the interference of profit motives.
It is fiscally efficient, eliminating the bureaucratic bloat that wastes approximately one-third of all healthcare spending in the U.S.
It alleviates the burden placed on businesses and unions to navigate and negotiate exorbitantly-priced healthcare packages for employees.
HCAO’s work is firmly rooted in the recognition that health inequities affect communities across the political spectrum who have been collectively harmed by issues related to access, bias, and affordability.
As a nonprofit organization dedicated to health reform and improving the quality of life for all Oregonians, we are guided by a deep commitment to equity, access, and the well-being of our communities. We recognize that the challenges we face are vast and interconnected, and that meaningful change requires both focus and collaboration.
Given our capacity and resources, we remain laser-focused on our core mission of raising awareness and advocacy for publicly-funded universal health care in Oregon. To ensure our efforts are impactful and sustainable, we prioritize our leading issue, health reform, as the central focus of our advocacy, programming, and partnerships.
This policy guides our decision-making and communications, helping us stay true to our mission while acknowledging the broader context in which we work. We remain committed to making a meaningful difference where we are best positioned to lead, while standing in solidarity with those working toward a more peaceful and equitable world.
The time of fragmented, profit-driven healthcare is over. Universal health care is not just a moral imperative; it is the most fiscally sound and equitable path forward for the state of Oregon. We invite every Oregonian—regardless of background, belief, or political party—to join us in advocating for a comprehensive, publicly-funded system that puts patient health before corporate profit and guarantees dignified care for everyone.
